Kara Slocum is a California native.  Born in So CA she earned her BA in Correlation of the Arts; Emphasis in Music and Fine Arts, and Minor in Humanities, at San Jose State University.  She also met and married her musician husband in San Jose.  They now have three children and have lived in the Antelope Valley for 8 years. In addition to directing the children’s choirs, Mrs. Slocum works as a vocalist doing community and professional vocal work in theatres, studios and churches. She has worked at Central Christian Church in Lancaster as the Creative Programming director for several years directing choirs, drama and dance teams, etc. and was the orchestra director at Desert Christian middle school. She keeps a busy studio of private piano and voice students and has produced a CD of original music as well as other CD projects. 

Mrs. Slocum has an extensive performance resume in vocal jazz and theatre including awards for vocal jazz soloist from Downbeat Magazine and most recently The Shining Star for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for her role as Nancy in Cedar Street Theatres production of “Oliver."

Mrs. Slocum directed her first children’s choir at the age of 16 and more than 20 year later, watching children grow, create, and learn through music is still one of her greatest joys. .She is honored to be working with the talented kids of the Antelope Valley Children's Choir.

Nancy Schuette, an accomplished music instructor and performer, is the Music Director of the AVCC and the Choral Director at Littlerock High School. Previously, Ms. Schuette was a member of the music faculty supporting schools in the Palmdale School District.

Ms. Schuette came to the Antelope Valley in 2000 from Colorado, where she directed and trained a variety of children’s musical groups. She holds Bachelor's degrees in Music, with an emphasis on piano performance, and in Music Education, from the University of Northern Colorado.

Since joining the AVCC as Music Director in August 2002, Ms. Schuette has led the group at several competitions, earning many awards, including top honors at the "Music in the Parks" Festivals every year. In March 2006, Ms. Schuette directed the AVCC at a performance at Carnegie Hall and at Trinity Church  during a tour of New York City. The choir also performed at the 2005 California Music Educators Association     conference in Pasadena, an invitation-only event that showcases only the best musical groups. In December 2004, the AVCC performed at the 23rd annual Video Business Video Hall of Fame Awards in Beverly Hills, where the choir sang "The Sound of Music" in honor of  inductee Julie Andrews.

Currently, Ms. Schuette is working towards a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting at California  State Los Angeles.
