The fall semester of 2010 is starting!  If this is your first year then WELCOME!  If you are a returning singers then WELCOME BACK!  This is going to be a great year.  Our director Mrs. Slocum has been going through lots of music and has picked some really great stuff.  There will also be some changes this year.  The most noticeable will be the new formal uniforms for the girls.  We hope you like them. We put a lot of time and thought into choosing them.

I would like to remind all parents that the choir board meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm.  If you would like to be a part of the decision making or just want to know what's going on please come.  Just let me know if you're interested.

The AVCC is a non-profit, parent run organization.  We are dependent on donations from the public and rely heavily on parent volunteers.   During the year we will run various fundraisers and a patron drive.  Please participate.  The more money we can raise, the lower we can keep choir fees.  This money is used for music, rental on rehearsal space, travel expenses and more.  In general, they are used to keep us going.

If any of you have any special skills in sewing, dancing, photography, fundraising or set design, please let me know.  We always need help!  Running a choir and putting on shows takes a lot of hands.  Even if all you can offer is an extra set of eyes please see your choir manager or me.  We need you!

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.  See you at choir!

Robbie Filloon, AVCC President

A new Director's Note is coming soon

ALL FAMILIES ARE REQUIRED TO RAISE A MINIMUM OF $100 IN ANY COMBINATION OF CHOIR PATRONS AND ADVERTISERS! Patrons are listed on the web site and in choir publications, such as the Yearbook and Concert Programs. Advertisers have the option of running ads in the Yearbook and/or the winter and spring concert programs. Forms will be handed out at rehearsals. Forms can also be found on the Fundraising page of this web site. Copy and print forms as needed. This year, so far our Patron/Advertiser Drive raised more than $3000.

ALL CHOIRS won first place in their catagories with EXCELLENT ratings at the Music in the Parks competition at Disneyland May 1 & 2, 2009. Congratulations to all our wonderful singers and our Director, Kara Slocum and Accompanist Phil Slocum!!

What is ESCRIP?  It's a way to support the AVCC and your Singer!  Certain merchants have partnered with ESCRIP to return a percentage of your purchases to the AVCC and your Singer.  25% of the amount goes to the AVCC and 75% goes to your Singer's personal account.  Visit www.escrip.com and take a look at the merchants available in our area.  Also check out their online merchants.  There are some merchants that return as much as 10% percent of your purchase back to the organization(s) of your choice!  If you choose to do so, you can even designate three different organizations to receive a portion of these funds. With the holidays right around the corner, this may be the perfect time to sign up.  Let the money you spend generate support for your Singer and the Choir! ESCRIP has made it easier than ever to sign up for their program.  Go to www.escrip.com.  Click on "About the Program."  This will give you details about how ESCRIP works.  Then click on "Sign Up Now."  Register your debit and credit cards so that as you frequent the ESCRIP merchants, your singer can have monthly deposits to his/her personal AVCC account.   Remember, you can use the funds from your Singer's personal account to pay for a variety of costs associated with his/her participation in the Choir. We are listed as the Antelope Valley Children's Choir and our Group ID is 4504479. Don't hesitate or procrastinate... a few cents or dollars here and there, add up over time! If you have any questions, please contact Vice President Shari San Miguel.

Because of insurance and liability issues, it will be MANDATORY for parents (or designated-in-writing guardians) to sign each singer IN at the beginning of rehearsals and OUT at the end of rehearsals. YOU MAY NOT DROP OFF OR PICK UP IN THE PARKING LOT. Parents will have to fill out a form listing who is allowed to drop off and pick up each singer. Parents will also have to sign a consent form allowing singers who drive to transport themselves and sign themselves in/out. Again, insurance and liability issues make this a mandatory procedure. Parents who do not follow procedure put their child's participation in the AVCC at risk. One more time--YOU MAY NOT DROP OFF OR PICK UP IN THE PARKING LOT, AND THIS GOES FOR SINGERS IN ALL CHOIR LEVELS, INCLUDING YOUTH CHORALE.

This is the place to brag about your good grades, awards, accomplishments and whatever else! To submit your Praise, email crier@antelopevalleychildrenschoir.org. Please include singer's name, choir level and accomplishment details.

Send in your Singing Praises today!

**The AVCC provides musical and vocal training in a professional performance environment. Choir members, and therefore, choir families, can expect a time commitment of no less than 3 hours per week during the regular rehearsal schedule, which would include attending regular weekly rehearsals and practicing their music at home. Performances and competitions will require extra rehearsal time and practice. Singer participation in concerts and performances is NOT voluntary. All singers are expected to participate. All singers are expected to follow AVCC guidelines regarding participation, uniforms and behavior. The AVCC is a non-profit organization; parent involvement is VITAL to the success of your child's experience. AVCC families are expected to volunteer time and participate in all choir fundraisers, including events designed to help AVCC families pay various AVCC fees. All choir policies and guidelines can be found in the Parent's Handbook.
